The SBE Certified Broadcast Networking Engineer (CBNE) certification is now available. The next opportunity to take a CBNE exam will be during the August 3-13, 2012 exam session within local SBE chapters.

The CBNE is an engineering level computer networking certification. The CBNE exam will test the candidate on the following categories of knowledge:Audio/Video over IP for Broadcast, Digital Content Management, Video Systems in an IT World, Data Transmission Systemsand Practices and General PC Hardware, Interconnection, and Backup.

Earning the CBNE certification requires a minimum of five years of broadcast engineering experience in order to qualify to take the exam. The exam consists of 50 multiple-choice questions (this portion is open-book) and an essay question (closed book).

SBE President Ralph Hogan, CPBE, DRB, CBNT and Past President Terry Baun, CPBE, AMD, CBNT headed the efforts to create the CBNE. Both are members of the SBE Certification Committee. This is the first time in 12 years that a new standalone certification has been created by the SBE. The CBNE is considered an engineering level SBE certification.

The CBNE does not replace the Certified Broadcast Networking Technologist (CBNT) certification or exam. The CBNT is a very relevant certification for entry-level individuals working in a broadcast computer-networking environment. The CBNE is an advanced level certification and therefore the content is more complex. This exam is directed to those in the broadcast engineering field who work intimately with computer networking.

The CBNE CertPreview provides users 50+ questions similar to those on the actual exam. After taking the practice test, the user has the option to revisit missed questions. At that point, the user is shown a reference to the publication that was used in the creation of the question. Users may purchase the SBE CertPreview for CBNE download version for $29 or a CD version for $33.

Visit the SBE website to order the SBE CBNE CertPreview, or other SBE CertPreview practice tests. To register to take the exam, download the CBNE exam application.
