Great News from Fresno State Radio Station 90.7 KFSR!

The university’s broadcast radio station, KFSR 90.7FM, began transmitting from a new 6-bay antenna and transmitter on January 1, 2025.  It is now at new full power as of 3:45 PM on Thursday, January 23rd.
Station Manager, Julie Logan Lindahl, has been working for more than ten years to get to this goal. Station Broadcast Engineer, Tom Whitlock, has also been working on this project with Julie, Fresno State officials, consulting engineers, equipment vendors and the Federal Communications Commission.
The new transmitter is a Nautel VX3 unit and the 6-bay antenna with a gain of 1.9 is from Jampro, the JLPC Model. Transmitter power output-TPO is 2,640 watts and antenna effective radiated power-ERP is 4,500 watts from the top roof of the Speech Arts Building on campus. A bonus to the project is a relocated transmitter room that provides significantly easier access to the station’s equipment.
Beckman Tower husband-wife team of Carl Beckman, Jr. & Lindsay Beckman did the work of removing the old antenna, installing the new antenna, installing the new transmission line to the new transmitter room and replacing the tower guy lines with new support lines.
Also helping along the way on the project were Tom Driggers, Rych Withers, and Dennis Thompson. I was also around at times to help Tom and the Beckman’s.
The station sounds great and the increased power and new equipment has helped increase the signal saturation within the coverage area of KFSR 90.7 FM.  GO DOGS!!

In other News, Educational Media Foundation-EMF (K-LOVE, AIR 1) announced that they are purchasing the Radio Nueva Vida Network and Radio Stations.  EMF will now have a Network of Radio Stations with Hispanic Christian Music to complement their current English Christian Music Networks and Stations. This includes KEYQ 980 AM-K241CL 96.1 Fresno and KGZ0 90.9 Shafter-Bakersfield and K209FV 89.7D Los Banos.
