Thanks to the “Amazing Joe’s”– Talbot and Mauk from the Telos Alliance, and the Ostlund’s– John and Eric, at One Putt Broadcasting for putting together a great March meeting presentation for the SBE 66 crew. For those who could not attend, see our photos of the event at the end of this Newsletter.

Temps in the 90’s, just a teaser (a term I learned from the News department) to place the business card for the air conditioning crew near the front of the Roladex. Don’t be afraid to admit you still have one on the desk. If you don’t, they’re available from Amazon for less than 20 bucks!

Did you make it to NAB this year? Or should I ask if you made it back. If you were one of the 100,000 plus NAB attendees, share a story or two with us at the Thursday April meeting. The FCC was there, no surprise, and issued a Report and Order on Part 11 of the Commissions rules regarding the Emergency Alert System. Read it H E R EFCC Chairman Ajit Pai made the rounds in Las Vegas as well. Read his remarks made at NAB H E R E.

You might think that chasing all those pirate broadcasters would keep the FCC so busy they wouldn’t have time for the other important stuff. Not the case. On April 19, 2018, the FCC issued a public notice of a temporary freeze on applications for new or modified fixed satellite service earth stations and fixed microwave stations operating in the 3.7-4.2 GHz band. This is the C-Band downlink. Read the Public Notice H E R EAs noted in the public notice, there is a 90 day filing window for Receive-Only Earth Stations that have not been registered or licensed and current registrations and licenses can be modified. The window opened April 19 and it closes July 18, 2018. Information on registering Earth Station sites can be found H E R E.

A reminder from Tom Whitlock, that Whitcomm Electronics will be closing is doors permanently after April 30th. The liquidation of remaining merchandise and selected fixtures continues until then. Store hours will be Monday through Friday from 8AM to 5PM. For those of you who may have missed the original story posted at the beginning of the year about Tom and the shop, we’re posting it again in this Newsletter. Tom we’re gonna miss you. Thanks for the 37 year run!

Our SBE 66 April Meeting will be held on Thursday the 26th at noon at the Arirang Mongolian Buffet in Clovis. Look for details in this Newsletter. Hope to see you there.
