If you’re used to those TV facility tours that make your hair stand on end (due to the RF in the air) our media facility tour for the upcoming April meeting may make you tingle, but in a different way. We’ll be in the refurbished Fresno Met building in Downtown Fresno for a look at CMAC (the Community Media Access Collaborative) where high powered transmitters are a thing of the past.

The Federal Cable Acts of 1984 and 1992 and California’s 2006 Digital Infrastructure and Video Competition Act (DIVCA) permit local governments to include requirements for PEG (Public, Educational and Government) access channels, equipment, facilities, services, and funding for their communities. The Community Media Access Collaborative (CMAC) was formed specifically for the purpose of managing PEG Access channels and facilities for the Fresno, Clovis, and local communities.

Their modern facility houses a 900 square foot production studio, private editing suites, meeting rooms, classroom space, and a computer lab, along with a variety of portable production gear. It also is the home for their automated broadcast center, which delivers programming to CMAC TV channels on Comcast, AT&T U-verse, and the Internet.

CMAC is a membership-based, non-profit corporation that helps local organizations, independent producers, non-profits, schools, public agencies and others to connect with the community through the use of media – primarily television and the web.

The CMAC facility tour is our April meeting and begins at 7PM. Pizza and refreshments will be provided.

SBE 66 would like to welcome its newest member to the Central Valley Chapter, Leon Eskijian. Leon is the Operations/Marketing manager for the Ventura Broadcasting Company. A reminder that SBE is still in its annual membership drive through the 31st of May.  Now is the time to find the individuals that you work and do business with who can benefit from being a SBE Member.  SBE membership has many benefits, read the article in this newsletter and direct any potential applicant to the SBE national organization’s website for more details: HERE
