Congratulations to the crew of SBE66 for supporting our chapter at the monthly meetings. Nice to be the top dog out of the 117 chapters in the US! Special thanks to our Chairman, Ken Holden, who diligently reminded us (usually with a phone call) that there was somewhere we needed to be on the last Thursday of the month. His coordination of meeting hosts and site preparation for presentations has certainly paid off. We’ve had some great gatherings with informative presentations and good fellowship. It’s nice to know that the 50-something broadcast market guys can compete with the top ten. The powers that be at the Society of Broadcast Engineers have determined that membership isn’t just for those of us with ‘greenies’ in our shirt pockets anymore. SBE president, Joe Snelson has said that in addition to its traditional broadcast engineering membership base, SBE will work to attract and serve those who work in technical broadcast and media related positions. Since there isn’t much happening at broadcast facilities these days that isn’t dependent on computers and computer networks, that’s probably a good decision to keep the SBE membership base growing. I don’t recall seeing a USB port on the RCA film chain. . . but then again I don’t recall seeing a film chain lately. Should be a good idea to get the IT guys and gals involved in SBE. This months meeting is at the Clovis HomeTown Buffet in Clovis on Thursday the 30th. It’s a no-host lunch, so pay as you enter (bring coupons if you got ’em) and we’ll see you in the back banquet room.
