Sorry I’m a bit slow here, I’m still trying to untangle myself from the net neutrality net.

The FCC’s new filing fee schedule has now been printed in the Federal Register, so they take effect early in June. The increases are generally 8%.

Good news, it appears that copper prices have reached a four year low. Thieves however, continue to strike broadcast and other sites in hopes of some quick cash.  How many of you have had copper thieves discover your radio or TV station? They’ll even steal working AC units off the side of your house (ask me about that one!)  Do you have a security plan in place that is working?  This could be a topic for one of the upcoming meetings, what works, what doesn’t.  One technique that appears to be somewhat successful is to apply a liberal coating of asphaltic roofing product to every copper surface.  This camouflages the copper color and might diminish the value if they decide to take something anyway.  I’m thinking this wouldn’t be practical in all instances, anyone tried it?

The FCC has extended by 18 months the waiver it issued regarding the Wireless Emergency Alert (WEA) PSAs that have been distributed by the FEMA. These PSAs contain WEA EAS tones – which has become a rather lightning rod for fines of late. The FCC says these PSA’s may run: The waiver is available here.  Even more information, HERE.

Chairman Ken Holden has arranged for us to view the SBE 50th anniversary video that was premiered at the 2014NAB show.  Check it out at this months meeting at the Clovis HomeTown Buffet on Thursday, May 29th.  See you there.
