Well the second reincarnation of KJEO/KGPE is now history. The CBS affiliate has moved from the First Street facility to the new location on McKinley Ave. I did quite a few sign-on/sign-off MC shifts at site number two. I even remember trotting up first street at 4 in the morning to open the doors and get the station signed on when the old Buick wouldn’t fire up. Many of you remember, or even worked in the original building at Cedar and Shaw. Ahh, those were the days.
As we begin 2014, I ‘d like to say thanks to all our sponsors who supported us last year. Thanks also to our presenters who hosted our meetings and provided informative presentations. We look forward to their continued support in the upcoming year. As always the Central Valley SBE welcomes businesses who can benefit by sharing their products and services in presentations or Newsletter sponsorships.
You might be seeing this SBE logo a lot this year. On April 5, 1964, the Society of Broadcast engineers was born. The result of years of work, debates and discussion, and even some controversy. What started with 100 engineers and the initial meeting is now an organization of 114 chapters and more than 5,000 members in 50 states and 20 countries. SBE National is planning various activities for the 50th celebration, we’ll keep you informed of what’s in store. One of those, is the amnesty program for individuals whose certification has lapsed, called the Jubilee Project. It runs through April of this year, find out more about it here: JUBILEE PROJECT.
Do you remember the ‘chant’ in the Wizard of OZ? “Pasta and Pizza and Spumoni, OH MY !” Yes, it’s our Chapter 66 version of the yellow brick road, the Annual PIZZA BASH at Luna’s Italian Restaurant in Clovis. Merrily skip your way to Pollasky Ave. and 3rd street in Clovis this Thursday at 7 pm, and find the Wizard of Pizza. Be sure to leave the Wicked Witch at the front entrance–see you there.
