FEMA’s Integrated Public Alert and Warning System, the National Alliance of State Broadcasters Association and the NAB will collaborate on a webinar aimed at helping broadcasters prep for the June 30 deadline. That’s when stations must have operational Common Alerting protocol EAS gear at their station.
The webinar, “Getting Ready for CAP: Countdown to June 30,” takes place June 6 at 1–2 p.m. Pacific Daylight time. The link is here (though note it is not active until the afternoon of June 6).
FEMA IPAWS Senior Program Manager Manny Centeno and Maine Association of Broadcasters President/CEO Suzanne Goucher will host.
“We’ll discuss what broadcasters can do to prepare and what to expect come June 30,” Centeno told Radio World. Topics include what broadcasters need to know to make sure their encoders/decoders are prepared to receive alert messages in Common Alerting Protocol.
FEMA IPAWS Director Antwane Johnson will update attendees on IPAWS developments. IPAWS staff will discuss the Primary Entry Point Expansion Program. At the recent NAB Show, Johnson said 64 PEPs are up and running and six more were under construction.
IPAWS staff will discuss general EAS-CAP best-practices, EAS device configuration and parallel operation of the EAS using traditional monitoring and CAP.
FCC personnel will talk about recent changes to Part 11 rules governing EAS and what state and local Emergency Communications Committees should be aware of as they update their state EAS plans.
