All you lucky dogs that were able to make NAB2012 this year are encouraged to gloat at the rest of us, at the April meeting this Thursday at noon at the Hometown Buffet in Clovis. Of course you’ll be required to fill us in on the latest must have wow-factor goodies. Though there aren’t any official attendance figures yet, those in attendance estimate that the crowds were at least as big as 2011. FCC chairman Genachowski’s prepared remarks for the NAB Show indicate that television broadcasters will have various options in the planned TV spectrum auction.
Those options are: (a) keep your 6 MHz bandwidth (although you may be assigned a new RF channel), (b) channel share (your must-carry rights will be preserved), (c) move from UHF to VHF or (d) sell your entire 6 MHz channel. We’ll have to wait for the details.
See what Chairman Julius Genachowski had to say about the auction and other aspects of broadcasting HERE.
In other hot-off-the-press FCC items, the commission has reconsidered and amended (for now) its EAS rules so that EAS participants may, but are not required to, employ the text-to-speech functions described in the ECIG Implementation Guide. Read more HERE.
